Coatlicue is my latest pastel. Coatlicue (Serpent Skirt) was a Mesoamerican mythological figure. She was the mother of the sun, the mother of the war god, one of five moon goddesses and the great earth mother who nurtures all things. To entice men to their deaths, she could transform herself into an alluring beauty.

I have finished another pastel landscape titled “Dark Canyon Wilderness”.This new image was inspired by the scenery near the junction of Woodenshoe Canyon and Dark Canyons in the Dark Canyon Wilderness area, Utah.
The chill is in the air. The temperatures are dropping. I was informed that I was a finalist and will display a pastel at the show. Come and view the many fine landscapes and visit the Fox valley area.

I have just finished a new pastel landscape titled “On The Prowl”. Coyote, the Native American “trickster” surveying his domain.
On a backpacking trip to the north of Natural Bridges National Monument I was drenched by a thunderstorm. The trail had started on the top of a mesa/forest and was red clay which becomes very slippery when wet. The thunderstorm turned into a steady hard rain and I was forced to find a level spot, set up my tent in the downpour and wait it out till the next morning. The following morning was cloudy but at least it was dry. The scene is the canyon the trail dropped into.
I didn’t see any coyotes or any people for the five days of the trip. My wife and I were serenaded by a pack of coyotes on our honeymoon trip about 15/20 miles south of this spot. We couldn’t see them but we certainly heard them. There would be a lot of barking followed by choruses of group howling.

This is a scenic “off the beaten path” park that has much to see. A great place to view the stars with its dark nights.
